Robotics Forum

The Robotics Team of PHOENIX conducted the third Robotics forum on 18.11.2011.In the last class students were given a basic idea about the mechanical portion of manual Robotics. This class deals with the electical portion of manual Robotics.

The following topics were covered in the forum

  • Switches: 1.DPDT switch(generally used in robotics) 2.SPDT switch
  • Connection of one motor using one dpdt switch
  • Connection of more than one motors using dpdt switches
  • To achieve forward, backward, left and right motion of robot.
  • Mode of power supply: 1.Battery,smps(switch mode power supply) 2.Adaptor
  • How to connect power supply to robot(Power supply to remote(switches) to robot).
  • Soldering
  • Ribbon wire

What's Next ?

In the next forum there will be some more dicussion about manual robotics along with the revision of the topics covered in previous forum and after that we will switch to autonomus robotics.

Next Forum ?

Next forum will be held on 25.01.12. In case there is any change, all the students will be informed.

Important Points to be Noted:

Topics related to autonomous robotics will be uploaded soon students are requested to go through it and get some idea before autonomous robotics forum.

It will cost about Rs.2000 to Rs.2500 to make your first robot but dont worry it will not such from second time because you are going to use same components next time including some extra components if required.

Your team should have four members.

TOOLS AND COPONENTS REQUIRED:

  • A wooden chassis
  • D.C. motors
  • Clamps
  • Wheels
  • DPDT(DUAL PORT DUAL THROW) switches
  • Connecting wires(ribbon wire)
  • Hacksaw
  • Electric drill
  • Screw drivers
  • Hammer
  • Cutting pliers
  • Soldering devices
  • D.C. Power supply
  • Multimeter

Problem statement of the intra-college robotics competition has been uploaded.

Robotics Forum

The Robotics Team of PHOENIX conducted this year's second Robotics forum on 11.11.2011.In first class students were given a basic idea of Robotics, that is, what is robotics, types(autonomous & manual),and how it is implemented at college level .In second class manual robotics was discussed briefly. This class basically dealt with mechanical portion of manual Robotics.

The following topics were covered in the forum

  • Design of chassis(base of robot)
  • Motors:
    1. high torque motors
    2. low torque motors
  • Wheels(diameter of 7cm and 9cm are generally used) ,Effect on wheel by varying its radius(v=wr) and width(p=f/a)
  • Motor clamp:
    1. L bracket clamp
    2. U bracket clamp
  • How to take measurement on chesis and then assembling motor clamps and motors on chassis.

What's Next ?

Electrical portion of manual robotics is left which will be discussed in the next forum.

Next Forum ?

Next forum will be held on 18.11.11. In case of any change all students will be informed. All students of first and second years are requested to attend next class because it will be last class on manual robotics and also there is a plan to organize an intra-college manual robotics competition on based on whatever will be discussed by the end of January.

Suggestions

Our suggestion is to attend each robotics forum and start preparing your own robot as early as possible because it is only way to learn robotics.

Introduction to Robotics

The Robotics Team of PHOENIX conducted this year's first Robotics forum on 21.10.2011. Students were given a general idea about robotics and were shown certain images and videos of bots made for various robotics competitions held in tech-fests of different colleges including those made for 'Avenir', the tech-cum-management fest of Netaji Subhash Engineering College.

What's Next ?

The next forum will held on 11.11.2011. We will be talking about the choice of materials, wheels, motors, bot dimensions and arena specifications.

Next Forum ?

The next forum will held on 11.11.2011.

Suggestions for furthur reading

You can check the Robotics events of Avenir , the tech-cum management fest of our college , to get an idea about what you might face in various Robotics competitions.
